Fjord to Fjord

24 - 26. October 2025

On Friday morning, eight eager tourgoers sat on the bus to Modalen, but we passed by it. Only in Steinsland did we get off. Our excessively ambitious 'Fjord to fjord' trip had been trimmed down in advance to a no-less exciting 'Lake to fjord'. The trail started off steep and we quickly ascended from the valley floor, to reach Vardadalsbu after 5h. Some brave souls went for what must have been a freezing dip in the lake.

Saturday morning pancakes had us start a bit later than expected - totally worth it, though! It turned out to be a long day through the continuous and tricky ups and downs of Stølsheimen. Norddalshytta was luckily visible from far away, which raised our moods during the second half of the day. Once at the cabin, four of us went for another hike to a nearby peak (with Yago ticking Modalens kommunetopp off), while the others prepared a delicious risotto.

Sunday was the longest day distance, but the terrain, mostly downhill to Ortnevik, was fun to hike. On the way down we met two happy fellow BSI Friluft'ers. We made good progress and had lunch at Brydalen with a beautiful fjord view. Afterwards, it was easy going and we soon reached the Sognefjord. At the probably smallest BUA in Norway (a single box), we found a volleyball and played an intense match while waiting for the ferry, as Peter got his daily dose of fjord swimming.

On the other side of the fjord, on our way back to Bergen, we had hot chocolate and kanelboller, putting an end to a lovely weekend in almost empty but astonishing Stølsheimen.

Tusen takk for turen!

Yago og Peter
