Hike to Grindaflet
07 - 09. November 2025
In early November, a group of BSI friluft students set out on a hiking trip in the beautiful area between Raundalen and Sognefjorden. Our destination was the majestic grindaflet cabin. Given the time of year, we prepared for challenging conditions: deep snow, bad weather, wet clothes and bad mood. But it all came different!
Instead of snow and rain, we were pleasently surprised by something that only can be described as late summer weather. There was not a single patch of snow, and the conditions were far better than anticipated. Lukas was silently hoping that at least the gruesome river crossing he had promised the participants on day two would come true.
But of course you should never get too comfortable. While chatting about how nice and relaxing the trip has been we were crossing why can only be described as a bigger puddle. And of course, an unnamed participant had an unfortunate fall which was only breaked by the chin of said person. Luckily everything was fine and the incident turned into a source of joy for the rest of the trip.
We reached Grindaflet just when dawn was about to settle in and spend the rest of the evening enjoying the cosy cabin.
We were harshly awakened when the firearlarm set off in the early morning of Sunday. Turned out that Oliver had come in from his tenting endeavours and started frying bread in the kitchen. The ambitious plan had set of the alarm but hey, everyone was surely awake and ready to start the day after this experience.
We left the cabin and headed east towards Flåm. Lukas was delighted to see that the river he had warned about so many times was much of a nightmare as he had promised. Some of the fittest decided to climb across the wires of the summer bridge while other took off their shoes and crossed at a shallower place while others went for what could only be described as the «leave your shoes on and just accept soaking shoes for the rest of the trip» technique.
But everyone make it safely across, be it with freezing feet, wet feet or bruises from the steel wire.
We continued the or hike towards Flåm and even getting a glimpse of both Hurrungane and Hardangerjøkul at the highest point of the trail before we started the steep descent. And you wouldn’t guess it but the unlucky person from day one had yet another unlikely slip on the wet descent that was riddled with autumn leaves. This slip ended up with her being stuck between two trees but fear not, the rest rallied to get her out while one of the tripleaders was quick to document the unfortunate situation with his camera. With teamwork and belive the stuck person was safely pulled out—once again showing the strong group spirit throughout the trip.
Again, no injuries were sustained and we managed to end this fun hike with some coffee and pasties in Flåm before getting on the bus home.
Takk for turen,
Endre and Lukas
