Fjord Kayaking in Sogndal

24 - 26. April 2026

We began the trip on Friday by driving from Bergen to our campsite just below Bøyabreen. We arrived around 20:00 to rainy weather in this steep mountain valley below the glacier. Despite the conditions, morale was good and the views were amazing. After setting up our tents on the beach, we made a campfire and grilled dinner, gathered under a tarp stretched between trees, and some ate unprecedented amounts of hamburgers.

On Saturday, we left early for Sogndal, where we had rented kayaks for the next two days. We set out in good conditions, with some sun and little wind, hoping for a full day of kayaking and the possibly of catching fish along the way. However, about an hour into the trip, we were hit by wind and waves from the opening of the fjord, forcing us to turn back toward Sogndal.

During the return, three participants got to try the temperature of the water, but the group response was great and we all made it safely back to shore. Given the conditions, we decided not to continue kayaking that day and instead drove to our planned campsite. With no fish caught, dinner consisted of sausages over the fire and freeze-dried meals while the sun slowly set behind the mountains, casting golden light on our surroundings. On Sunday, we packed our tents and returned to Sogndal for kayaking deeper into the fjord. Sheep and little lambs played on green hills by the water and it felt like a fairytale. After the paddling we drove back to Bergen, refreshed from our little weekend getaway. Thank you to those that joined the trip!
