Glacier course with Wild Voss

10. june - 15. june 2026

Our group of 5 glacier enthusiasts headed off on a Wednesday morning for a long day of driving in a fully packed car. After loading in even more food for the next 6 days we arrived at the beautifully located Jostedal Camping, our basecamp right next to the biggest glacier of mainland Europe, Jostedalsbreen.

On the first day our guide Carlos got us confident with the basics of walking on easyish ice. The next days were spent with technical training like crevasse rescue on snow and ice, placing ice screws and snow anchors or ascending a rope. We were trusted to lead the group quite fast and everyone got to try every position in the rope team. As the days passed, we got more confident with the ice and made it up more and more challenging terrain. Our final day was expedition day, and we climbed the glacier as high as we could and crossed our first snow covered crevasses. Also included was an adventurous knee-deep crossing of the glacier river. Evenings after the long days out were spent enjoying the mountain scenery, planning the next days and cooking delicious dinners, which had to be eaten out of throwaway plates and lunch boxes because someone (me) thought there would be plates.

Some of us stayed a few days longer after the course and recovered our stiff bodies for a bit before we did some scrambling in the more challenging parts of the glacier and tried ice climbing.

Thank you to everyone for the nice trip!
