Høgruta i Jotunheimen
april 18th 2026 · Leader: Yago
Excitement overtook preparation as we neared the trailhead at Bessheim after a long drive on Friday.
On Saturday morning, four eager ski-tourers with heavy backpacks finally set their skis on rotten snow ready to take on the infamous Høgruta. Weather forecast was for ugly weather over the weekend before beautiful, clear skies after Monday, for the second half of the trip.
Turns out we didn't even make it to Memurubu. The dry, snow-scarce winter meant the season was over early. The western slopes barely held any snow, and following the westbound route would have meant very little skiing. Somewhat defeated, we turned around and descended the same way from Besshøe, now struggling to fight the late-evening whiteout.
We thank everyone for joining, and bid farewell to Høgruta with one last message... we will be back!
